The Future of Information Technology

Information Technology, or IT, is a growing industry. However, it is still in its nascent stage and many aspects remain unsolved. As the field continues to grow, information technology professionals will have to hone their skills in order to remain relevant. Despite this, IT professionals will still be able to make a significant contribution to the economy.

Still a nascent field

Quantum computing makes use of the properties of quantum physics to perform computations and store data. While still a relatively new area of information technology, it is growing rapidly in higher education. Universities are working to build upon this momentum by addressing issues of talent diversity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and funding. One such network is the Public Interest Technology University Network, a group of institutions working to train the next generation of information technology experts. Their goal is to educate students with critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze the ethical implications of emerging technologies and design their own solutions in the public interest.
